FAQs

General

+ What are your locations?

Currently, Girls Build™ Summer Camp is in the following locations: In Oregon, we are in Portland, Grants Pass, Talent, Willimina, Tillamook and Warrenton.

We offer after school and weekend classes in Portland. Check our classes to see what might interest you!

+ Are these overnight camps?

No. Camps run daily from 8:30am-4:30pm. You drop off and pick up your camper each day.

+ We love Girls Build™. Can you come to our town?

We would love to come to your town, but we also don’t get to chase every idea we love. We have grown so much since we were founded in February of 2016, but we like to grow methodically and conscientiously. It costs between $50k and $70k for one week of camp when we travel. As it turns out, it takes a lot to teach the building trades in a safe and supportive environment. If you are a sponsor who is interested in funding us, get in touch.

+ Are you franchising?

Not yet.

+ How much does one week of camp cost?

Our weekly cost depends upon the location. Our real cost is $1750 per camper, and we charge campers between $250 and $500 (excluding scholarships), depending upon location. And yes, scholarships are available. Approximately 1/3 of our campers attend on scholarships. Scholarships are easy to access and we encourage you to apply!

+ Can we come in from out of town?

Yes, of course. Our camps run from 8:30am - 4:30pm daily, and we have out-of-town campers at most locations. Come explore a new city while your camper explores the world of building.

+ Can my camper attend two camps in one summer?

Unfortunately, No. Due to the limited number of spots at camps and the fact that we do the same projects, we don’t allow campers to attend two camps in the same summer.

+ Can my camper miss the first day of camp?

Campers cannot miss the first day of camp because it's the day we do all the safety and tool training. They will start projects that they will then build on and use the rest of the week. We have so much packed into camp that they won't be able to catch up on those projects. Unfortunately, with the tools we're using and the level of safety we need, it's not something they can prepare for at home.

+ What is your cancellation/refund policy?

We are happy to give you a full refund if you cancel with at least one month’s notice. Within one month of camp, we can refund 1/2 of your camp fee. Within two weeks of the camp start date, we cannot refund your camp fee. Caveat: If we have a waitlist and can replace your camper with a paying camper, we will give you a full refund.

*If we have to cancel camp for any reason (i.e. a global pandemic), we will give full refunds.

+ I have only received a Procare invitation for one of my campers. Are all my kids linked to my account?

Yes, Procare may only send a signup code for one of your kids, however any other kids are linked as Siblings in the account and your single PIN will work for all of them.

Scholarships

+ I registered for a scholarship and paid $5. I'm done, right?

You're close! We will process the applications after registration and let you know your award. Any further instructions that are needed will be emailed to you.

+ How do people qualify for a scholarship?

We look at the whole application and compare it to our guidelines. There is no specific "in" or "out." Please give us as much information as possible in the essay section as it helps us see the whole picture. We consider annual income, number of children, qualification for free/reduced lunch, and your specific circumstances.

+ I am caring for a child in foster care. How does the application work?

You'll see the foster care specific registration when you click on your preferred camp. Simply fill out that registration. Please note that your child does NOT have to be CURRENTLY involved in the foster care system, but can be now living with bio parent again, or have completed the adoption process.

+ How many scholarships are given out per week of camp?

The number of scholarships depends upon how many sponsorships we receive, and how many partial scholarships are given out versus full scholarships. We encourage families to pay any amount possible in order to ensure more scholarships for everyone.
